SLOVAKSPORT TV Chanel from Slovakia provided four hours  of live transmission of the final matches of the Dynamic Best of the East 2014 tournament. It was the biggest tv coverage in the history of the Best of the East series. In the competition – Slovakia 10-Ball, played in the Arena club in Ruzomberok, played 62 people. Tomasz Kaplan from Nosan Kielce (PL) became the winner.

It was a big surprise to be informed that a popular tv channel would like to broadcast our tournament. In the beggining the transmission was supposed to last 2 hours but after the consultation between the President of Slovakian Billiard Association – Samuel Koniar and the board of the tv station, the decision was changed and finally they have transmitted 4 hours of live streaming. This way we were able to show one quarterfinal, both semifinals and the final match. Congratulations to the hosts. The costs of the transmission were covered by SBA, Arena club owner – Marek Potas and Mak Marketing.

Players from Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Czech Republic came to Ruzomberok. During the opening ceremony Marcin Krzeminski – the President of Mak Marketing and European Billiard Council presented the biggest stars of all national teams. On behalf of the hosts gave the flowers to all ladies taking part in the competition as the matches started on 8th March (Women’s Day). Amongst the honorary guests were the representatives of the biliard associations and the EBC’s partners: Adrian Tabacaru from Romania, Tomas Onderek from Czech Republic, Milan Mrva and Jaroslav Polach from Slovakia and the hosts of the Arena club – Roman Hamor and Marek Potas.

Considering the big amount of the participants, matches were played in two sessions. The first one started in the morning and the second one at 4:30 pm. Finallly the games ended at 10 pm and we can say that there were no surprises. To the final round, which began on Sunday morning, got 32 players – 2 from Czech Rep., 3 from Romania, 20 from Poland and 7 from Slovakia. The hosts were hoping that at least one Slovakian player would get to the stage broadcasted on tv but unfortunately this did not happen. Daniel Borovy and Jakub Koniar dropped out in 1/8 final. None of the Czechs made it to the quarterfinals as well. Players from Poland and Romania were eventually fighting for the medals and the Polish team came out stronger. To the semifinals got Tomasz Kaplan, Mariusz Skoneczny, Radoslaw Babica and Ioan Ladany. The champion of Romania – Ladany was defeated by Tomasz Kaplan (7:3). The winner of Polish Ranking 2013 – Mariusz Skoneczny was better than the European Champion – Radoslaw Babica winning 7:3. In the final Skoneczny started very well but the experience of his opponent decided that Kaplan became the winner (won 7:3) and got his next gold medal. Ewa Bak from Poland was the player amongst ladies and as the one got to the second stage. Cristea Surdea from Romania proved his skills by defeating e.g. M. Fortunski and K. Skowerski and finished on the 5th place. He was close to win with T. Kaplan but didn’t deal with the pressure and made simple mistake playing safe. „I am very satisfied with my performance. I played a few times in the Dynamic Best of the East but I have never got so far” said Cristea. „It wasn’t my best tournament but friends let me win. It is important to use every oportunity like this” laughed after the final Kaplan. Emil Paliwoda debuted as a refferee and was assisted by the new Administration Chief of European Billiard Council. Thanks for the hospitality for the owners of Arena club, Slovakian Billiard Association and the general sponsors of the cycle: Dynamic Billard, Iwan Simonis and Saluc-Aramith.
